Laser eye surgery?
Permalink Closed

Has anyone here had laser eye surgery? I used to have glasses only for reading and now I can't see far away, so I need those progressive lenses, which I can't stand to wear.

I wonder if I'm a candidate. i'd love to be able to recognize people when they walk in the barn door!

Hi Barbara,

I've been watching this post for a few days to see if anyone had any personal experience with this as Im in the same situation!

A friend of mine had her eyes done a few weeks ago and she said that despite the initial discomfort, it was well worth the money.

I've been waiting too. I know the guy I work with has had it done and is happy with it, I just can't get past the whole slice your eye open thing.

I know, it just sounds awful!

At the place my friend had it done, apparently they used a chemical to burn the top layer of her eye off which left her feeling like she had had a face full of sand.

As much as I hate wearing glasses, the thought of laser eye surgery just freaks me out! Everyone who has had it done loves the results, but I dont' think I have the guts.

I completely agree with your, horse-hearted! I think I would rather put up with contacts and glasses for another few years before I can work up the nerve (and save up enough money too) to have this procedure.

But best of luck Barbara! You are braver than me ;)

Lol,well, I'm not quite that brave!
I need to learn a lot more before I go ahead. My neighbour had it done and he had great vision for a few years but then it went right back to where it started, so I don't know...

Oh wow, thats a really big investment just to have it all undo.

I havent heard of that happening but no doubt it does - I suppose your eyes change all the time, especially as you age. What a shame, and a waste of money.

Thanks for the heads up, Barbara, I will be sure to ask about that if I ever get the guts up!

My eye doctor told me not to get it done unless your eyes havent changed for at least 2 years. He also told me that as you get older you will need to get reading glasses as your eyes do change....but he did highly reccomend for me to get the operation as it does work and I could enjoy being glasses/contact free for a little while. He told me probably in my 40's I would need reading glasses....I would also love to get the operation done, I just need to save up some money! I have known a few people who have had the sugery and they are all happy with the results.
