How do you feel about riding infront of people? Do you peek into the arena to make sure the coast is clear before tacking up? I used to have the jitters when it came to riding infront of other people, but now that I've been dumped by various horses infront of various amounts of people I just wait for the scores of the dismount

Too funny! I usually get sketchy about riding in front of people, although after awhile I calm down and get caught up in what I am doing. My coach loves to show boat, however- she positively feeds off a crowd!!!
I use to be a nervous wreck riding infront of people, but after a while you just don't care who watches and block the crowd out. Just take a deep breath and go for it. Trust me, they only focus on you for a few minutes and then switch their attention elswhere.
I show, so I'd better be okay riding in front of people, not like dressage is a huge spectator sport. I've got a pretty thick skin, and I know there's tons of 'backseat riders' out there critiquing. They haven't had to ride my horse, and until you put a foot in the stirrup, you don't know what a horse is really like. So, I just can't bring myself to care. I know people have opinions about my size (which makes me stand out), and my horse is very nice (which makes us stand out). If they have positive things to say, that's nice, if they don't, their problem. Only I know where we started with my girl.
Oh, and as an aside, most people don't watch other people anyway, if the truth were known.
I am mostly nervous when my coach or someone I greatly respect is watching. I don't want to screw up! Spirithorse- I agree with your psychology. I can usually bring myself back to the bubble where it's 'just us'. I'm all too human sometimes, though!
