Hi Nikki, the doctor was just talking with me about this, but of course now I forget everything! The bottom line is that we need both! LOL!

They are very good for your cholesterol and they help create bulk to keep your bowels running smoothly.

So in short, I'm not getting ripped off by my cereal's fiber content being 13% insoluble. I was thinking "unusable" fiber, this is a rip off lol

Insoluble fiber is the stuff that keeps you "going". It's roughage. You need it. Soluble fiber is digested, sort of like a starch would be. I hope that helps! Let me know if you want more clarification.

"NU" I thought the soluble stuff also kept you going, but was more gelatinous, like Metamucil.

Is that right?

What a topic!!! :)

Both will have some effect but the insoluble stuff provides the bulk. $725 MILLION per year are spent on laxatives (in the U.S.) - so it's probably good that we're having this conversation. Fiber is your friend! :)
