Do you sometimes think that if you weren't riding you would have hours in your day/week/month, etc. to do several other things that would interest you equally?

Do you think because of the time committment, riding inhibits your growth in other areas of your life?

I am a blood-born career horseman so every moment I spend with horses feeds my life, my dreams : )

While I am educated in other areas, it all comes back to the horses. My kineseology is most useful in my equine rehab and therapy programme and my music lets me write/choreograph some fun rides : )

I do believe it is smart to have a back-up plan, no matter what dream one follows.

I think other people think it takes up too much time. I don't have other things that I'd like to do that would interest me equally. Horses are my thing. My therapy, my solace, and the only reason I go to my day job (employers HATE to hear you say that, btw). I think if you think they take up too much time, then they probably aren't the *it* thing for you.

Riding and horse management take up a lot of time and energy, no doubt about it. However...rather than being a jack of all trades and master of none, I make my choices accordingly.

I think it's quite possible to have other interests, it's just nearly impossible to have other passions. Some of the best and most stimulating discussions in which I've had the good fortune to participate have been with international dressage trainers and coaches, about topics like religion, theology, philosophy, politics, global resource management, movies, plays, opera, music, etc., etc. Really bright and motivated high achievers manage to have many smaller interests, which keep them balanced within their personal passion.

I have terrific memories of attending a stunning Christmas concert at Christchurch Cathedral, with a symphony orchestra and a renowned a capella group, with one of my coaches, who was, at the time, the Dutch National coach, and who has both Olympic and World Cup medals.  We had a wonderful experience, as both of us appreciated the music, the venue, and the time.
