Is anyone else out there having trouble getting their foals Registered after spending the $$$$ on stud fees, shipping semen, vet costs, mare care only to find out the stallion owner has not paid for current year fees to the Registry. I have just spent the best part of 1 year attempting to Register my warmblood gelding with the Holsteiner Association of North America. The good news is that my foal now has papers, the Registry folks were wonderful and very understanding. The bad news is that the Stallion owner knows who she is and so do all the others that were involved in the final outcome.
Mare owners out there BEWARE. Make sure that you have everything in writing when you enter into a breeding contract, particularly if the Stallion has multiple Registries he is nominated for and ensure that your resulting foal is eligible for Registry in one or all of them. Find out if the Stallions Registry dues are paid uptodate and question anything that is not clear to you upfront and before you part with your money.
That is some good advice showhorses! Thats too bad that you had such a bad experience with the breeders but it was nice that the registry worked with you.
