I wasn't sure where to post this thread.  Just wondering if there are any Saddle Seat folks hanging around the Barnmice forums? confuse

Are you a saddle seat rider? If so, I would love to know more about the sport. Which breeds are used for the various classes - and what kinds of classes are there?? This just shows I really don't know anything about that discipline!

I'm very interested in what kind of actual classes are available for Saddleseat riders. Is it just, "saddleseat" as a class? Or do they vary depending on gaits/breeds/etc? Anyone out there that knows something about saddleseat who would like to share?

Yes, I am a saddle seat rider and there are entire shows (even week-long shows) filled with many types of classes for saddle seat riders. The most popular breeds for saddle seat are American Saddlebreds, Morgans and Arabian. I will write more later - have to run now.

I'm most familiar with Saddlebreds (don't believe the horrible rumors you may hear about how Saddlebreds are treates) and somewhat familiar with Morgans.  I'm not that familiar with the Arab and National Show Horse divisions (NSH = Arab x Saddlebred)

Saddlbreds are shown in Pleasure and Performance classes.  The performance divisions are with the hotter, more game horses, vs. the pleasure horses who are required to be mannerly and flat walk, etc.  There are also some driving divisions.

This is a link to the (dry) descriptions of the divisions: http://www.saddlebred.com/ASB-Specifications

Once you get to the list, you can go to YouTube and search each division to see some of the differences.

This video is kind of old but tells a nice story about Saddlebreds and their versatility

Enjoy!
