This is a bit of a long and confusing mess, but I will try and condense it. I recently have outgrown my pony, as I'm moving past what he can do. So we tried out a friend of ours thoroughbred, I liked him and we brought him to our farm on a trial basis. I rode him for a bit and got one of my coaches to get on him, she said he felt lame and may not be the best investment. So we tried out an uber talented rocky mountain horse who I promptly fell in love with and we brought him to our farm. I had a lesson with my other coach and jumped on the TB to ride, as the rocky mountain had just arrived and we wanted him to settle in a bit. This coach said she thought the TB had a lot of potential and would be a good investment. Now I have two horses with one coaching leaning towards the TB, and the other leaning towards the RMH. Personality wise I prefer the RMH, but he is better trained and I would probably only get a few years off him before again needing a new horse, but I could probably make enough off him to get my next horse when I had to sell. The TB has the possiblilty to go higher, but I can't ever sell him for profit (long story)and I didn't "click" with him, but I could possibly take him higher. I ultimatley will do what feels best to me, but what would you guys do? I just want some unbaised opinions :D They both have vetted clean, although the TB will need a bit of work to help him loosen up in the back. Thanks for your advice! Edit: I will be competing them in hunters, where the RMH is adorable and fancy, the TB is stunning...

Personally, I would go for the horse that I connected with personality wise. You never know just how far you can take a horse, despite what the horse looks like on the outside or what he already knows. You may find that your personality matches one horse so well that you can accomplish things other people may not have accomplished, simply because they couldn't communicate with the horse quite as well. I would go with the horse that just 'feels right' - that you can communicate with much easier.
Best of luck :)

I have to second what Ash has said. If you go with the horse that you don't "click" with, you may end up having riding setbacks and become discouraged because of this. Which horse would you regret letting go of the most?

I'm going to buck the trend here: if you want to do hunters, then the TB is by far the best choice. You didn't mention whether the RMH jumps, but since they are gaited, their 'type' isn't going to be as appropriate for hunters.
You also didn't mention what level of competition you are doing or are hoping to do. If you plan to do some local schooling shows or 4H/pony club type competitions you would probably do fine with the RMH, but at some of the larger schooling shows or rated shows, the RMH might not be as competitive.
If they have both vetted clean (and the TB is not lame as your one trainer suggested), then you will have to choose based on other criteria. What you plan to use the horse for is very important. It can be a real challenge to do sport A with a horse bred to do sport B. If you do sport A with the B horse, you are fighting with conformation and way of going which can be a challenge at best and a great frustration at worst! While personality and willingness to work can sometimes make this challenge more do-able, you need to be very honest with yourself and clear sighted about your goals.
Good luck, and have fun with whichever one you choose! (And, if neither of them is 'right', then maybe you should keep looking ...)
