Cloning?
Permalink Closed

After coming across a few articles relating to some famous horses being cloned, or possibly being cloned (Gem Twist, Smart Little Lena, to name a couple), what is your take on cloning?
Can someone explain in basic terms how it takes place (what you need in order to clone a horse, is it created in a lab or AI into a carrier mare, etc?)
I'll start by saying that I'm not really educated on the subject enough to have an opinion one way or the other. I do think though that ethically, cloning animals is a lot different than cloning people (let's leave that discussion to another forum!) I do think though that in the case of horses like Gem Twist or Funny Cide where they held extremely valuable traits but where otherwise sterile, cloning could be a good way to help repopulate the gene pool with solid genes.
