Nice to meet everyone. I'm Jen from Oregon and have a 12 yo quarter horse mare who's do to foal in April 2011. Although I've had horses all my life, I only began learning more "formal" riding and care techniques the past couple years. Some things I like and some I'm deciding to keep doing the country girl way that's worked for me all these years. :)
This is also my first time I'll be a new Mama! I'll admit I'm kinda getting nervous. As usual, my girl Chancy is far more experienced than I as she's foaled 5 babies before.
Looking forward to learning and sharing with all of you!
I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' no babies but there are some very savvy people here that can advise well. Wishing you and Chancy an uneventful..event : )

what a hoot!! i've birthed 2 horse babies. still have them, they are 5 and 3 now. the 1st one was a real event- we were all there, with the camera. in the stall- no she's rubbing the little protruding hoof on the wall!!! horrors!! out of the stall- whew, baby born. its's a boy , no its a girl!! crazy!! then for the 2nd one. gen- go check rosie. 1 am, yup, she's good. so i go out at 5 30 to feed. look through, see a fat tummy, ah good, no baby. get closer and there's the after birth on the floor. aHHH look over the door to see a little muzzle reaching up. "HI" i think rose had enough of our interference and decided a quite birth was in order!! good luck!
Welcome to the forum - We have had 5 foals on our farm - all our mares have done it on their own and tried very hard to not have us there when they foaled. We did lose one unfortunately - he was born at 308 days and did not survive.
We have one due for april - this mare is a pro and it is a full sibling to our 2010 foal brittania by my now gelding out of our salut/tb mare.
So a full sibling to this baby.
two of our homebreds are now under saddle.
As for human babies - I have two sons - 17 and 20 - both event - so it's been a long time since my births - but if you need some happy, uneventful and easy birthing stories you can pm me. I always found that everyone wants to tell you the horror stories of births - but mine were nothing like that.
Good luck with both babies.

Sammi - sneaky mare you have there! Prospect - so sorry to hear you lost a little one! :(
