What are your favorite horse movies and where did you buy them? I've been looking for years for a copy of Phar Lap on dvd, I'm considering breaking down and going the eBay route.

Some of my favorites are:

- Hidalgo
- The Horse Whisperer
- Sylvester
- Secretariat
- Wild Hearts Can't be Broken (also can't find it on dvd)
- Phar Lap
- Black Beauty (cry every time)
- Just about anything with a horse in it, even if it is super cheesy!

I try my best to avoid horse movies (and books too, for that matter). Usually they just make me cringe.

However, I do love Seabiscuit (cry every time!) and Hidalgo. Both are great films that don't complete screw up the horse parts!

I'm the same as Kathleen.  I think I just can't suspend disbelief well enough or long enough to sustain me through a horse movie.  I remember when I discovered Dick Francis, in my late teens - an author who really knew what he was talking about with horses, and wrote a great story as well.

The last horse movie I watched was Phar Lap, and that did it for me, even though Tom Burlinson was gorgeous.  I will still watch The Man From Snowy River though, because the horse is so incredible, and the riding, while pretty rough and ready, is amazing.

Not only was Dick Francis an author of great books, he had first hand experience in the saddle as jump jockey for the Queen herself, hopefully his son will carry on writing aww

America's Next Dressage Star? That sounds really neat! Where can you watch it?

And I also watch Heartland on CBC - it's not always the most accurate, and sometimes it really makes me cringe ('who wrapped that horse!?' type of thing) but I'd addicted to it. So cheesy, but so much fun!
