Best time to buy gear?

So, I am going to start showing this summer. I'm wondering when people found the best time for:

buying used gear

buying new gear

I need to start saving up for gear, so I'm just wondering when the best time to buy stuff is, so I can judge how long I need, and put money away accordingly.

Hi Emiry,
If you're buying new stuff and you're looking for a good deal, the very best time to get it is right at the end of show season when the stores want to make room for winter clothing. If selection is more important than price, you want to aim more for the March/April time frame when stores are stocking up on the show stuff but other people might not be buying it yet.  I know we still have these Show Jackets these Show shirts and these Breeches (fullseat) (classic) at Apple Saddlery right now on clearance.

The best time to buy used is probably coming soon up when people realize they don't fit in last year's stuff and need to replace it.

I always buy next winters rugs in the sales in the spring/summer when shops try and get rid of old winter stock. And showing stuff I get in the winter sales, just pray you don't put on any weight due to too many xmas puddings over christmas or you may be stuck with a show jacket that barely holds you in :D

Ebay and end of the season when it goes on sale.. ie: buy show gear at the end of show season, summer blankets in the winter, winter blankets in the summer.. et.
