New group to advocate for equine rights in north suburbs

"...a zoning law that would have limited farms to holding just one equine event per year, a restriction that could have put some farms out of business."

Apparently in Northern Illinois, McHenry County Planning and Development has decided to propose a zoning law that will limit farms to just one equine event per year. The Northern Illinois Horsemen’s Association (NILHA) has banded together in an attempt to stop this. Pending its acceptance, more places are likely to start accepting zoning laws similar to this in lieu of attracting more residents, or making room for the ones they have. My guess is by putting equestrian facilities out of business, they hope to open up large chunks of land for development.

As the article later states, " According to he HCI, the Illinois horse industry contributes $3.8 billion to the G.D.P. (Gross Domestic Product)." - This means if these devlopers begin to stamp out the equestrian industry in Illinois, their state-wide GDP is bound to drop a staggering amount, creating more unemployment and losing huge chunks of revenue for the state in taxes and the like.

What are your thoughts on this situation? Are you an Illinois resident who will feel the changes of this?

"The Northern Illinois Horsemen's Association will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m.,  March 28, at Entropy Farm in Woodstock."
