LOAN YOUR DRESSAGE HORSE TO PONY CLUB - NATIONAL COMPETITION IN ANCASTER
Permalink Closed

Hello everyone,

I have had some good luck with very generous members of EMG so I thought I would try here.

Western Ontario Pony Club is hosting the National Dressage Finals in August in Ancaster. 49 Competitors from across Canada are coming for 2 days of competition.

The event includes each rider drawing 2 horses to ride. They will ride a technical test on each horse plus 1 mystery test on their first drawn horse.

Levels include Starter (walk / trot) up to 3rd level and FEI Children.

The local Pony Clubs will be donating horses as well as some from the Central Ontario region however, we are lacking in total horses (especally 2nd and 3rd level).

If anyone would be willing to loan their horse, we would be super grateful.

Dates are August 12 - 14th so we are hoping to have the horses arrive on the 11th and leave on the 14th. We are hoping you can provide your horse's feed and possibly their tack and we will provide the rest including hay, water, essentials and a groom to look after them.

The horse lending form can be found at http://www.canadianponyclub.org/National/D...rrow_Letter.pdf.

The riders are the best across Canada so they will be well looked after and ridden by great riders.

Thanks in advance for your help or consideration.

Sherry

Hi Sherry, I hope you find some horses! It is a wonderful experience for everybody involved with donating a horse to be used at a horse show. The riders are generally very grateful of having a mount, and the mounts are much appreciated and well looked after!

Here in the USA, that would be a lawsuit just waitin' on a judge. Even WITH an insurance clause.. Too bad, too. Way back, when Maclays were realer, we often had to switch/draw horses for a performance/handy class..reasonable proof of riding skill and the ability to move into jumpers if desired. THAT got booted out when we recognized the ease and joy of lawyers plying their wiles.

I've never been on the inside of the jumping/dressage/competition ring really, but it's kind of heartbreaking to see/hear that, Justice. I had a lot of fun watching the Final Four at the WEG 2010 where Rodrigo Pessoa/Eric Lamaze/Philippe Le Jeune/Abdullah AL Sharbatly all switched up horses for 4 rounds of jump-off magic. It was truly incredible to watch. To see the level of skill these men had to ride each horse to its full potential was amazing. I remember Mr. Pessoa commenting how nervous he was to ride Lamaze's Hickstead, as Hickstead is a bit of a spazz. Yet each rider managed to warm up their new mount with a maximum of two jumps in the warm-up ring, and take on the jump-off challenge successfully. It's a shame to see that lower level (see: non-Olympic/WEG/etc level) competitors here in the States frown upon that kind of thing.

ETA: Sorry Sherry, don't mean to hijack your thread ;)
