Box Fan Recall

I thought I would pass this on, in case anyone has this particular fan in their barn. Though you're probably not using it right now ;) Has anyone had problems with fans in their barns before? (electrical problems, horses being afraid of them, etc?)

A good excuse to switch to Big Ass Fans (yes, a real company for barn fans biggrin).

I've never had a problem with a fan in the barn and found that most of the horses really enjoyed standing infront of the fan during the summer (keeps the flys off their face). Of course, all of the fans were plugged into horse-safe outlets (out of reach with cords in a tube).

thanks for that - if you don't mind I am going to post that on a couple other forums in the interest of safety.

Definitely haven't had any luck with box fans :/ The horses were getting really bothered by the dust getting kicked up and they were a very visible distraction. I talked to a rep from MacroAir and they were really helpful. They have lots of information about HVLS (i think that's right) fans and how they help in barns and any area with horses on their website. I would definitely recommend them if you want a cost-effective solution. I read one of their articles and blog posts about the energy savings and i was amazed!! I also looked at Big Ass Fans, but i thought their fans might be too distracting?? I dunno but i wanted to go with something simpler and less obvious so that my horses wouldn't overreact or freak out with huge yellow winglets (don't know if that's right haha). i kinda liked MacroAir's simple approach rather than flashiness. Anyways, I thought it would be a cool thing to show y'all. :)

Welcome to the forum, Christopher! ;) You make some good points about visual distractions. Thanks for the suggestions! Hopefully they help some Barnmousers in their decisions when replacing these fans that have been recalled!
