Retired racehorse The Wicked North euthanized

According to TheHorse.com, The Wicked North (17 Starts: 8 - 4 - 1, $1,180,750 - Far North (a Northern Dancer son) x Wicked Witchcraft (by Good Behaving)) was euthanized Thursday morning after complications from an intestinal lipoma strangulation

"After the Californian, The Wicked North suffered a suspensory injury in the 1994 Hollywood Gold Cup that ended his racing career. As a stallion, The Wicked North stood in California, New York, and lastly at True North Farm in Kentucky. He sired two stakes winners. In 2006 he suffered a near-fatal bout of EPM (equine protozoal myeloencephalitis) that ended his stud duties."

Jingles to Michael Blowen of Old Friends, where The Wicked North lived out his days, as well as to all of the other many people who I'm sure he had a strong impact on.

My thoughts to Phil Hersh (owner) and David Bernstein (trainer), and everybody else who was involved with this unique Thoroughbred who faced a lot of bad luck throughout his career and life. He was a wonderful runner that blew the pack away, and was unfortunately disqualified from a big win in the Santa Anita Hcp "The Big Cap" where he was said to of drifted into another horse's lane while breaking away from the pack on the stretch for home. As you've mentioned already he was then retired from racing due to a suspensory injury in the Hollywood Gold Cup, and was later retired from stud due to a bout of EPM.

RIP The Wicked North.
