Pinch of Baking Soda or Pinch of Salt in Horse's Feed?

I always thought a pinch of salt would do thri trick, but now I am reading that baking soda is the better choice.

Read this and scroll down to get to the sodium part.

Thoughts?

Wow.  I wish I had know about the baking soda when I had horses!

I liked the point of letting stalled horses see each other.  I hate the "solitary confinement" stalls, and just being to see out of the door or a little window does not seem to make the horses much happier.  We forget that horses survive by keeping track of everything going on around them.

This is a very good article.  Thanks for bringing it to our notice.

I once had a friend who kept a small feed bucket in her horses' stall that just had about a cup of baking soda in it. She said that if they start to get a belly ache or anything they would start eating the baking soda. But would just ignore when they felt fine. Kinda like how dogs eat grass when their stomachs hurt.
