My father in-law's boat blew up!
Permalink Closed

My father in-law, who is close to 80, was pulling his boat away from the marina at Lake Simcoe on Saturday. About 100 feet away from the dock he heard a bang and the back of his boat was gone and the boat was on fire! People from the dock were yelling "Jump", so he had to jump into the freezing lake in his clothes and shoes and swim to shore! Fortunately, he was perfectly fine!

The boat was burned to smithereens and the fire boats were on the scene. It made the news! Click here to watch!

So that was our bit of excitement over the holiday weekend!

Glad he's okay!!

I find it a little funny that the camera crew actually got to see the police fighting a boat fire, what are the odds? Like really?

Wow! What a crazy weekend your family had! Glad to hear everyone is okay, though! :)

OMGIH! Well, I guess that goes to show, one's best weekends are those in which one's activities don't make it on the evening news!

Glad to hear that F-I-L is OK despite the long swim to shore (in clothes and shoes, no less - makes swimming so much harder).

Any idea what caused the explosion?

No idea. But interestingly, he has spent years and years swimming laps in his freezing pool which he refuses to heat. He was well prepared for the lake swim!

By the way, he told my husband that he was glad he was wearing shoes. They acted like flippers!
