I've noticed that a lot of eventing horses have what, grease? slathered over their breasts and the front of their legs for the cross-country section.
How do you manage the effects of the heat on the horses when they lose the ability to cool down with sweat in these areas? Can you tell us so we can help our horses in the heat?
It's vaseline and supposed to prevent injuries o.f., I do not see the point.
What can you do to cool a hot horse in the heat after xcountry. Alcohol in water helps, also putting towels with cool water/alcohol can help. NOT walking (which continues to create heat) and being the shade also helps. Cold hosing the neck (jugular vein area) also cools the horse. (In extreme situations vets will put cold water inside the horse rectally).
