How is everybody dealing with the heat? My area of Southern Ontario hasn't had rain in over two weeks -- our grass is crispy and brown as can be!

Rather than doing much training, I spend most of my time moseying!

I can't stand being inside, but there are so many flies this year, I can't go by a single tree without being swarming by those nasty ones with the coloured wings that buzz round and round, then attack!

How are you dealing with it, Nikki?

Sitting infront of the AC with a glass of water currently biggrin

I've been walking the dog early in the morning, he absolutely does not like the heat at all (when I take him out during the afternoon, he wants right back inside). Also I've been drinking a lot of water, wearing a hat outside if I'm out during peak hours and secretly doing a rain dance when nobody is looking!

I haven't been walking in the evening because the bugs have been so bad in our area too -- I feel bad for the horses down the road, they'll have no tails left come Fall after swatting the bugs all summer.

Here in "sunny" B.C, we are still waiting for summer, so heat is not our current problem. But the bugs are much worse this year, swarms of mosquitoes like I haven't seen for years. Turns out mosquito eggs can survive for several years, so they all hatched this year, the last about three years of drought just made them that much more desperate for blood this year. Last year was hot and the only way to survive was to get up at six, hit the trail by 7, and be home by 9 or 10. Then just spend the rest of the day in the cool, (or in the shade for the horses). Really watch your electrolytes in hot weather as just drinking water won't be enough. Same goes for the horses. I used night time turn out so they could fill their belly in the cooler hours.

The mosquitoes are so bad here that we can't even keep the horses out at night. Mom's usually are in a paddock at night through the summer, but we've brought them into stalls because they were just miserable with the bugs! I've got industrial strength bug spray coming in from the states, we'll see if that works. I hate that we can't get the 'good stuff' here!!!
