This was going to happen from the first strides. I would have either had the rider circle and relax the horse or get offfffff. Talk about lack of relaxation and following bascule, and then fixing the hands. That said...over reactive horse as well.
Like what you state Barnfrog. f I was a potential buyer, I would have asked the rider to get off and lunge the horse before riding. And those hands were so BAD......... I do see potential in the horse, though. Rider was horrible.
I don't know if the rider was the buyer, their coach, the owner, or someone else riding the horse to show him to the buyer. From the very quick bit of commentary, I'd guess it was the buyer.
That ride looked like trouble from the start and if I were on the horse and trying it, no one would have had to tell me to get off. I sure would have - and quickly!
Maybe it's my hundred years of experience, but I would ALWAYS have the seller's side ride the horse first, THEN decide if I even wanted to get on. THEN (because I'm lucky enough to have a coach who comes with her students to try the horses) I would have my coach ride. THEN If all was looking positive, I would ride.
The rider is very lucky to not of been seriously injured! It looks like both horse and rider weren't a match from the get-go. With that being said, I agree with Barb -- I like somebody from the seller's end of the deal who is used to riding the horse to show me the horse under saddle before I decide if I'd like to ride the horse or not.
I didn't listen to the commentary of the video, but speaking from experience I've seen seller's put green riders on horses that they weren't suitable for just to make a sale. Sad reality but it does happen and that can lead to a dangerous situation if you're nervous and out-horsed

Every time I see this video I think the saddle did not fit the horse or the rider, and that the rider did not have enough experience to recognize the signs. Did the rider bring her own saddle to try out on the horse?
