What Horsey Thing Did You Do Over The Weekend?
Permalink Closed

How was everybody's weekend? Filled with fun horsey related events? I took in some of the Western Fair ( London, Ontario) yesterday -- Watched a bit of the English horse show, a heavy horse hitching demo and than checked out the Shanahan Belgians in their stalls -- beautiful horses! It was a pretty relaxed afternoon aww

What horsey thing did you do over the weekend?

I travelled a LONG way to get a lesson at my old alma-mater--North Fork Sc. of Eq.. I do this instead of clinics, I don't have the endurance for a clinic! So I go up to North Fork once a year, with my MS I can't do more, but it is worth the exhaustion for sure! It is sooo worth it to ride horses trained in Forward Seat. The lesson horses there insist that I do things PROPERLY before they respond. Not good for my ego, but it is really great for my equestrian education. I love those school horses!

hmm, let me see. Oh yeah, went to another show! That's 10 in 10 weeks. In all those shows I only rode in 1!
Kids are having fun, that's the improtant thing. It's all about the children( keep telling myself that) Have a weekend off the show's this weekend, be nice to stay at home for a change.

I helped my student, a Para rider, at her last show of 2011. I hauled her horse to the show, helped prep her and (hopefully) found good contacts in the Therapeutic Riding world. I need to find an easier way for her to achieve her grading than going all the way to California from Colorado. Hoping to arrange a clinic/symposium for Midwest Para riders who also would like to be graded. I'm new at coaching Para riders, so I'm not always correct with the lingo!

My student did very well with her young horse, but there are miles to go yet. It was a beautiful day for a horse show!

It sounds like everybody was super busy but had rewarding weekends!

Jackie -- I have a soft spot for dear old school horses that know their job really well, I was just talking over the weekend with my boyfriend about the great Quarter Horse and Welsh pony who put up with my skills when they were very lacking and taught me (in their own ways) how to become a better rider and person in general.

Geoffrey -- 10 shows in 10 weekends, kudos to you! Glad you and your kids are having a great show season, even if they're doing the majority of the showing!

Figarocubed -- It sounds like you've put in a lot of traveling, but I am sure that it is very rewarding for your student and you!

I fulfilled a vision, and managed a 1st time Open English Flat and Western 2 Day horse show! The women's club I am involved with hosted, we had 47 horses, a fabulous list of volunteers, and a very enthusiastic group of competitors and cheering section. What a wonderful weekend. Lots of paper, money, forms and bookwork to do this week, but very very worth it. Looking forward to running it again next year!!

I stayed home and had my very out of shape 18-year-old Haflinger pony jumping up to 2'9" (she's only 13.3 hands, so not very big).

i rode in the forest both days. on sat i got a bit lost and we were out hacking for about 2 hrs. she did the most lovely soft, balanced halt, canter, halt on a long flat trail. sun we only went out for 1 hr, but she loved it. it was a great break from the dressage arena...

Mags and I chaperoned a young gelding around the field hacking. Today, she nearly fell on her face (and did scrape the inside of her mouth), because sometimes she forgets where her feet are (one would think SHE was the 4 year old). She likes meandering around the fields, although the wind today was nearly too exciting for both of them...

And my dearest Havoc, well, 7:30 this morning Momma caught him and took him up to the barn where he took his shot like a fairly decent boy. I have to be back there at 5pm for the next one. Last night I drove up to Balzac to get oral medication in case he decided that he wanted to be a rodeo star...

Once again, I managed to get NOTHING done around my house for the weekend. Oh well, no company expected any time soon, and I'm used to it by now...

On Saturday I watched a Ron Postleb clinic and met some new horsey people. Unfortunately, I didn't get to ride at all this weekend! And it was gorgeous out on Sunday. Luckily I get to ride again soon.

MagsNMe -- glad your boy took his shot fairly well, that is always a relief!

Trouble Horse -- How was the clinic? I don't know much about Ron but I do like his (and Lisa's) riding style. I think he was behind the training of Kathy Lifton's Casa Cho Cho?

Nikki, the clinic was pretty good. Ron seems like a good guy and I liked how he wasn't as full of himself as so many male coaches seem to be (at least to me). Everyone worked really hard and got good results I think. He even rode a couple of the horses himself. Not everyone was an advanced dressage rider and I thought he dealt with the different levels of horses and riders well. He does kind of lapse into German now and then though!
