ebay honestly has incredibly good deals on blankets. They are brands you have never heard of but I have had mine for 3 years and Kiss has yet to destroy them. Win in my book. They were less than $100 too.

my too on Pleasant Ridge, my stud horse Che is murder on blankets, and so far the 'blackwatch' plaid blanket stands up best and believe me I am experienced with blankets, as in 3 winters he has gone through 9 winter blankets, 2 spring blankets , 1 cooler (fitted) and a good wool cooler-- while we were watching him!!!

We also used different sprays and formulas to keep him off, all they did was bother his stomach, and he still ate the blankets... the blackwatch blankets last him about 2 months--- better than the two days that two of the other blankets lasted him!

I have a Titanium blanket of theirs but I am affraid to try it on him, as it is way nice!!! I work nights and sleep for a couple of hours in the afternoon in the barn and it has been my blanket for the last couple of months!!! So he has his plaid one for now, and each day I go home and hope it is in once piece... it is heading for the two month mark right now... cross you fingers

So Che's and my vote for a cheap and very tough blanket would be the 'blackwatch' plaid blanket.

Just wanted to chime in when I saw the topic, even though I do not have a straight forward answer regarding a good source of budget friendly blankets.

I would instead like to suggest to find the best blanket for your horse and then rather save up for it than buying a blanket based on cost considerations.

Here the reason: During my work I see horses come out of the winter every year that are clearly damaged by ill fitting blankets. Most blankets are not really designed to fit a horse well enough when it moves and exert pressure on the nuchal ligament. This can-in extreme cases-lead to lameness, pain and muscle atrophy. I have even seen world class jumpers in rehab due to this problem.

There is one type of blanket that will prevent this problem: a blanket with an extended neck pieces (not the ones you need to attach, but one that is built into the pattern.) An example is the Rambo Wug. (No, I don't work for Smarpak... .
