Western Dressage Test Over 80%
Permalink Closed

This is just a preview, but the horse looks very nice. Thoughts? I have no idea about this sport. Has anyone been following it? It seems like an interesting combination of disciplines.

Seeing him ride one-handed reminded me of the pictures in the old dressage books, Duke of Newcastle, Pluvinel and de la Gueriniere, they rode with just one hand too.

Scores were too high as there was no real changes in gait.

The problem with WD is simply that the tests are really not demonstrating anything.

Watered down to palcate so-called WD enthusiasts.......politically motivated acceptance by USEF

If you read the descriptions for WD (walk/jog) then the ride does fulfill the things in the rules. And I prefer the one hand rein hold rather than the two which are (imho unfortunately) allowed on a curb/spade. IF it is 'politically motivated' it is by the Morgan contingent who brought it to the USEF. But this rider is from Canada where dressage basics are being promote for training (and where all forms of training ARE licensed!) And from an (upper level dressage) student who moved there, there is a strong western vaquero tradition there in places.

Do I agree that the scores are too high? For the reasons given (which were minimal) perhaps, but there are many points which are in alignment with the DIRECTIVES for the movements (bend/circle shape/steady tempo). The biggest difference for me would be the jigs which were ignored. But the test is similar to our usDf walk/trot, and this would get only a slightly lower score there.
