My baby boy (he's 5 ) is going in for surgery to milton equine hospital to get his stifle slit on monday :( my coach thinks he will have a month of just stall rest but we dont know yet.. if he DOES have stall rest at all, what are ome things i could put in his stall so he wont be really bored??? im going to start trciktraining him so he doesn't get bored but like, when i'm not there what are some things??? we have tried a jolly ball before but all he did was poop on it soo?? and suggestions would be helpfull... i feel like a worried mom :L
ya, we only found out yesterday that he will only have to have stall rest for 3 days! we have gotten him a slow-feed hay net... it works wonders! basically what it is is a normal hay net but it has much smaller holes in it so the horse can't eat the hay as fast and "waste it" we also got him an uncle jimmies stall ball... he doesn't really understand it but he will eventually :)
That is good news that he will only be on 3 days of stall rest! It sounds like you're on the right path with the slow feeder hay net, I'm sure once he figures out what the Uncle Jimmy's stall ball is all about he'll go right for it too!

It was so funny! so today i came to the barn, looked inside his stall and what do i find?? his "yummy ball" treat almost gone! i would say he figured it out :)
now that i can start riding (only hacks) he has become "homebound" wanting to go r e a l l y slow away from the barn, but wanting to be the little racehorse he is, MUST speed walk towards the barn... not sure how to stop this without him getting annoyed, help?
