Hi

I am looking for a Canadian supply (or an US suply minus the shipping costs! lol), for dimagnesium malate.  I can get every other type of magnesium in Canada, but not the one I am looking for-- other than for humans which is cost prohibitive.  There are some studies out that this type of magnesium is benificial for horses with IR, as well as tie-up issues.  My vet here supports that idea, so I would like to try it.  If I can get my hands on it I will keep Barnmice up to date as to the success or failure of it, as I know first hand that treating both these problems is horrific!!! It has kept my two horses sidelined!  no

Thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. The product Simmerdown from Herbs for Horses has helped my IR horse (not cured, but really helped).

Hi Deb,

I wish I could help you out with a lead on where to source some di-magnesium malate within Canada. I had a gelding for 10 years who was prone to tie-up, it is completely disheartening at times. I wish you the best and please keep us updated on your finding!

Hi Deb! Have you checked out Performance Equine's MagRestore? It's a US company it seems, and I'm not sure what your price range is like, but it's the first thing that popped up for me and seems to have high reviews. I would also check out Kentucky Equine Research as they frequently have many new products dealing with equine digestion and health. Look forward to seeing what you find out! :) Ash

Preformance Equine was where I got the info, but it is not the cost of the product, but it will actually cost me for only about a month (for one horse, I have two that I need to use it on) more to ship than buy, the cost for just one horse for about a month is 80 some dollars US.  It really adds up when you think that my bill for suplements for these two horses (neither is well) sits at about 230.00 or so a month (plus keep, stall rent etc.).  Neither is racing at present, and although I work full time as well as race, my job only goes so far.

But didn't think of the other company which I had forgoten about, I have delt with them, and will check them out, thanks for reminding me about them...

ps they have an awesome product for asidosis called Equishure, which I have used and had work... it is not cheap, but did actually do what it was supposed to do.

Cheers,

Deb

I hope you have luck with KER! I wish I knew more Canadian companies. I will search around and see what else I can come up with for you! :)
