Can you see that I have a thing for Halloween? Any haunted barns out there? Spooky stories welcome!
I'll start us off, many years ago when I worked as manager of a large stable, I was often working alone in the barn. It wasn't October, but it was a stormy week in July, and a very stormy summer over all. I had heard mention of the barn being haunted by the first stallion to stand stud at the facility many moons ago, he was buried on the property, on a hill over looking the creek and his old pasture. On this particular afternoon, it was pretty dark and there was a good storm on the approach, so I was hurrying to throw hay in all the stalls before rushing out to try to catch all the horses (alone, as usual), and I was about half way through throwing hay into the stalls, when I heard a horse gallop through the barn, all the way down the aisle (37 stall barn, it was a long one!). I almost had a heart attack thinking one of the horses got out of it's paddock and was racing through the barn, worried that it might slip because there was a distinct sound of horse shoes. After making a quick jog through the barn, checking the stalls for the loose horse, I realized it must of been the ghost of the stallion letting me know that he was still around!

Nice story wish I had a story like that. We only have an old mouse infested barn that creaks every morning when I do the shores while I wonder when it will fall on my head.
My friend often tells me stories of a haunted barn that she used to be at- they would hear stall doors opening when no one was around, hoofbeats in the arena when it was empty, etc. I think it's kind of comforting that our equine partners are still hanging around, checking in on things.
Still hearing stuff that is not there is kind of scary. I would be happy to have my horses around but I would not want them running around my barn when they are dead.
