All of you riders that endure the blistering cold, and all of you stall muckers who are out in the barn long before the sun gets out of bed. What are you wearing to keep your behinds warm for winter? Snowsuit? Layers of long johns with a warm yet fashionable bright orange hat? Heres to the bravely dressed for winter (and I hope nobody sees me!) equestrians

Go coffee! If it's a really rough day...a little (just a little!) Bailey's in the coffee. Oh, and I always invest in good winter boots. Spirithorse- Where do you live? Can I move there? It's too damn cold out here to just wear jeans!
I use to ride no matter what kind of weather. I don't anymore. If it's too cold or too wet I just skip riding and we all enjoy a day or a couple of days of. I don't háve to ride anymore and love the fact that I got this far. I never allowed myself to take riding not so seriously and love that I can now be a lot more relaxed about that.

Well, SLC, Utah is my place....though called New Hamshire home for 8yrs .... lots of snow and cold. Used to ski in just jeans too.............way back when LOL
Do wear a WARM jacket and gloves and ear covers...
I'm just really grateful for modern technology. We get a lot of snow (really deep snow), and some deep cold, but usually not more than a couple of weeks in late fall and another couple of weeks in late winter, but those weeks can go to -35 or colder, and the greater part of the winter is between -5 and -10 all the time. That does keep things clean for the horses, and the cold doesn't bother them like damp does.
I ride in Kerrits Sit Tight 'n' Warm fullseat breeches, and Mountain Horse Ice High Rider boots. I wear an undershirt, a turtlenck, a heavy vest and a jacket over that. I have ear warmers which fit into my helmet harness (do they ever help!), and I buy the microfibre winter gloves from Greenhawk (inexpensive and they launder well).
Once I've done my walk warmup the quarter sheet comes off the horse, and the jacket comes off me, and we get down to work. Once the work's done, and we're cooling out, the jacket goes back on, as does the quarter sheet. I have infrared lights in my grooming area, so the horses are warm and comfortable and so am I! I can't imagine doing it now without my heated tack room though - I think I was blissfully ignorant in my youth!
Ranna- I'm so with you. When I was young and spunky I rode through anything. Now winters are for grooming. Dbliron- The heated tack room sounds awesome!
I wear Tough Duck overalls and jacket with Sorrel boots and a fleece helmet/ear/neck cover with a balaclava underneath. Saddles get put away for the winter and suede bareback pads come out. Trail ride all winter long to keep my boys active! I want to enjoy everyday on a horse, but I hate being cold! I stay bundled up and ride ride ride!!! Screw fashion - I'm at the barn!

Kudos to you Eventer15, if my toes get cold I'm a goner! Everything else can freeze off (nose, fingers), but once my toes get cold I start to whine. I have a pair of Sorrel boots too, like somebody else mentioned. I just ride without stirrups, or put on wider ones.

I wear thermals/winter breaches/winter boots and gloves riding. I start out in my winter jacket and then take it off after warm up.
I found a polar fleece skirt and I wear that until it is time to ride - it is quick to get on and off and acts like a blanket on those really cold days.
I find the winter gloves so bulky I end up taking them off at some point in the ride.
I usually wear jeans but these are not regular jeans they have a felt lineing on the inside of them it dosnt get super cold in the part of bc i live in but they work wonders and for my feet i just have regular gum boots and double up on the socks one being a wool sock and if its real cold that day i got some of those feet warmer things that last 6 hours and then all i need is a heavy sweater and jacket and a wool cap and i am all set to go

Without an arena...I have found that to survive the Canadian winter....a cold water scuba suit under my clothes is perfect...and after I altered it for easier taking off...I can even go pee if I need too..lol.
I also get me a pair of gloves that the fishermen wear in the northern cold waters...I also bought one of the jackets they wear...and am very toasty warm.
Now I do not have to wear so many layers I can hardly move and still ride.
Being in Ontario and wanting to ride all winter without an indoor I bundle up alot! I have a really good pair of winter riding boots and I usually wear a couple pairs of socks and on really cold days foot warmers which I LOVE! lol I wear layers of pants and snowpants on top. And for sweaters I wear a lighter one then a warm hoodie and my really warm coat. I got a warm pair of gloves at Canadian Tire (so much cheaper and better than riding ones) and I have a helmet cover which I could not live without.
Eclipes...Canadian Tires in Ontario sell neo-prine (sp) gloves very cheaply...warm and waterproof and often only $14-20.00....they are lovely to water in our frozen north too.
