Here in New England, and plenty other places as well, the seasons are more Ice, Mud, Bugs and Hunters than Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. There IS that glorious two to three week span in late September early October that holds NONE of the above but alas it is too brief. Needless to say, during these "seasons", we work, ride and schedule accordingly.
Spring and Fall are event seasons for me, Summer is spent busting for a lazy Winter. Winter is typically spent training or conditioning, rehab goes on year 'round.

I like riding in every season, I'm weird like that
My routine has always been winter for training, spring for polishing, summer for showing, fall for year end awards. Everybody gets down time in Jan-Feb.
