New 1/2 marks in Dressage tests? What do you think?

So what does everyone think of the new rule of allowing 1/2 marks in the dressage tests next year? Good idea or not?

I think it's a good idea - I think it give the judges more flexibility in marking - be interesting to see what they think.

Hi, Geoffrey!

I too have some trouble with this concept. I think, unfortunately, that what we will end up with is a lot of tests with nearly the same, or exactly the same, final scores, and the 1/2 marks will make what is already not clear to riders, trainers, coaches, and yes, even judges, even more unclear.

Additionally, judges already have too much to think about, and too many marks and movements to keep track of productively, so I can't see that further complicating the process of awarding numerical values and comments to movements will make anything better in the long run....

Call me a traditionalist!

How will it work? Will that apply to every mark on every test or just the international tests?

I find it so funny how negative horse people are about change - can you imagine if you were to win because the judge gave you a 1/2 mark higher than the next person. I think it allows for more flexibility in the judging.
