My Pheets horse took the bridle like a pro after dramatic/traumatic dental adventures, only a couple weeks ago. And for our next trick, we will attempt to get back in the trailer : )

Getting a pony to feel o.k. : Developing a relationship with a scared-paranoid pony to the point where he trusts me enough to relax in my presence when on either side of him and would later paralell my body movement and rate with me at walk, trot and reverse; opening, passing through and closing gates together - accomplished and performed without any equipment for a vast majority of the tasks. A large, loose neck collar was put in place for 'insurance' but not used when leaving the pen for the first time and manipulating gates.
Having a good enough position to stay on a bucking horse! That and starting jumping cross rails at the trot, I haven't jumped going in at a canter, but I have done a line where I jumped one cross rail, pony came out at a canter, then jumped the second cross-rail.

i have done almost the same!! it has long been a dream of mine to bred, raise, start and show a warmblood. my 5 yr old mare is the result. she's great to take anywhere and she's quite successful in the dressage ring. i too had to sell my horse of 3 yrs but i did it when the economy started to crash, as i just couldn't see how i would keep my 3 horses. i now am starting my mare's 3 yr old brother, and getting ready to repeat the process. he's supposed to be my daughter's horse, so i hope she rekindles her interest with him, as i'd hate to have tosell him and i find it hard to work 2 while working in an outside job....
