Do you get cranky if you don't ride?

I haven't ridden in two weeks and I am becoming vile!
Even though I'm on vacation, I can't get to that same chilled-out spot. I feel sorry for everyone around me!!

I'm in the same boat...the monsoons, this last little while, demands of the holidays...I haven't been on in a wk and a half...and I've gone from cranky to down-rite NASTY...

my horses on the other-hand are quite happy to be patted, fed, turned in, turned out...don't think they're in any great hurry to go back to regular work...

I haven't ridden in about a year and a half now and I'm more eager to find a way to start riding again than bitter that I haven't found an opportunity. I think I have found though that sometimes when I have gone a little while without riding after I've been riding regularly that I tend to get a little snappy. Life just isn't the same if you're not around horses!

I live with my horses so am rarely without them. I admit to being unapproachable when one of them is out of sorts.

Up here where I live some folks trailer to an indoor arena to ride, but riding outside is pretty much forgotten in Dec, Jan, and most of Feb. Today it was minus 23 Celsius, which is getting close to 15 or 17 below zero Farenheit. Because I ride 4 to 5 times weekly spring thru fall, my horses are kicked out in the pasture for 3 months for sure. No riding, just ground handling, grooming and generally being doted upon for those 3 months if not more. I do find that when I get back to schooling/training in the spring I am very happy to be in the ring working. And so are my horses! I have no desire to trailer to ride in the winter, I feel my horses do better with this period of time off.

Yeah, I get cranky.  And depressed.  NOTHING can replace riding, though just being around the horses can really help.

I get cranky if I don't ride because too long of a hiatus gives my guys time to get too fresh! They are on 24/7 turnout... but the first hack after a week of lounging and they become a little too frisky! I enjoy quiet meandering hacks... my morab seems to forget that there are not monsters in the forest if he doesn't go down the trail on a regular basis... that first ride is a rigid, jigging adventure! I prevent this at all costs by riding 3-5 times a week all year long... night time rides all winter long!!!
