Have you heard about the movement for Meatless Mondays?
It's more of an environmental movement than it is an ethical or health movement. The production of meat uses a tremendous amount of resources and creates some serious pollution issues.

FANTASTIC! Guilty of already being vegan, but I really love the idea of meatless mondays. Raising animals for consumption (including dairy) is responsible for 50% of all GHGs (green house gas emissions). Not consuming meat one day a week (or every day of the week (: ) drastically reduces your impact on the environment.
However us veggie riders are a bit hypocritical, since our horses produce just about the same emissions. By eating less meat, you're making up for a bit of the environmental impact caused by your horses (their gasses, trailering them, feeding them, etc). I hope everyone tries out meatless mondays. Once you realize how simple and delicious it can be eating veggie, I'm sure everyone will commit to giving up their guilty pleasure once a day every week.
Thanks Patti for introducing me to meatlessmonday.com !
This is a fantastic idea! I'm a bit more on the "healthy vegan" side of the spectrum, but I do eat meat still. I try to opt for healthy meats, but given the state of the economy (how many times have you heard that one?), in my household, it's simply not an option to buy buffalo burgers or ostrich patties, etc. Thus I much prefer the idea of meatless Mondays. It's cost effective and helps save the Earth. Even if you're not into the whole "global warming" thing, what's so bad about making the planet a better place? It's not like by choosing greener options, your decisions and effort will go to waste (should we find out that Global Warming is a false idea). I'm all for the health and environmental impacts Meatless Mondays will have :) Fantastic!

Countless marine mammals, sharks, and sea turtles are killed in the process and thrown back into the ocean to rot. Many fish species have been fished to near extinction, throwing off the balance of the ecosystem.
From a nutritional standpoint, wild caught, cold water fish like salmon has exellent health benefits. Consider eating it on Tuesdays.
Have you noticed how many small children are being born vegetarians (meat disgusts them from their first taste) or they become vegetarians by elementary school (once they learn what meat is)? I think it's fascinating and exciting! Some of my favorite people are vegetarians!
I've been vegetarian for most of my life --began in the late 70's when I was 16 and people looked at vegetarians back then as if we were from another planet - I dealt with a lot of 'ignorance' and ridicule back then.
Now?..... -- well to each their own.....
but it's good ...it's good that people are starting to think more about the moral, ethical, environmental and health implications of what they eat and consume in other ways
