Men's Show Jacket
Permalink Closed

So I'm a recent re-rider.  I was away for 11 years.  I need a new show jacket and am having a super hard time finding one. I know black is best but can only seem to find navy.  Where do all these male riders get all of there stuff.  I'm in Ontario Canada.  I ride in Campbellville and Georgetown.  Any adive on colour and if there are any guys out there who know of a great place let me know.  I really don't want to buy online since I think I really need to try the jacket on.

Please help.

Thanks

Wish I could help you but alas, I am not familiar with Canadian local tack shops. Best I can tell you is to look into Bit-o-Britian or maybe Dover Saddlery but that would be online shopping. Good luck in your search!

Welcome to the forum anyway : )

I have two sons that event - and when they were growing rapidly I would just go to Walmart and buy a black suit jacket - would a dressage judge really notice -

If you are just doing low level shows I think that would be fine.

Hi Carter, you might want to call Picov's in Ajax and ask them if they carry men's show clothing. I know they have show jackets and shadbellies, they just might have something for men in black aww

Thanks for the replies so far. Men's suite jacket won't work i've tried that. Buttons go too low. Picov's has one jack in a 38 I'm a 44 not that that's a huge size. 38 is pretty small. I'll have to keep hunting. Some people are saying Navy is fine but I feel like if I'm gonna spend the money I might as well get a black one that will last me a very long time. I may end up taking a trip down to New Jersey since I have family there and seeing what I can find. Once again that's for your input.

then I would consider using dover or dressage extensions - give them your measurements.

Navy is fine for a show jacket. My new jacket is navy.

If you find a show coat in navy that fits you, is flattering, and feels right, go ahead and buy it. With the new rules concerning coat colors, Black and navy will soon seem "boring".

I lust for a dark, dark green show coat....

COTH has a thread in the dressage forum about the new colors and a chart showing how to pick them. Dark grey w. a faint stripe would be fine.

Hi, Carter:

It can be really challenging to find riding gear for men, at least it is in Canada!

My Dad's a competition rider, and after a lot of searching we found him a really beautiful jacket through Equestrian Collections.  They're in the US, but they're incredibly helpful over the phone, and their prices are reasonable.  They also carry men's breeches, which can also be hard to find if you're not a hunter or jumper rider.

Good luck!

Ya I think I'm taking a 6 hour drive to Michigan.  There's a place that has 6 differnt jackents for men in my size there.  And the price is really good.  So it may be worth the drive espically if the Canadian dollar keeps picking up.

I've found breeches fine.  But I do have to find a white pair for competing uner $150 is my goal.

Can someone send me a link to the new colors? I would be interested in reading that. Because of the area I am in, even though the shows are local formal attire is required(at least black coat).
