Funny moments with horses
Permalink Closed

Have you had a moment with horses that made you laugh? Let's hear of your funny moments.
One day when working at a riding stable I was taking a ride out. One of my friends told everyone my balance was good and I did not need to tighten the girth. So he loosened the girth so it hung about 3 inches below the horse. Well I took the hour ride out and as I was getting back I seen my partner from pick-up racing. I yelled to her to get ready to be picked up. I forgot about the girth. When I went around the barrel and she jumped up we both ended up underneath the horse still holding on. Everyone got a good laugh that day.

When I managed a barn back in the day, we had a broodmare in that the owner preferred to bring in his own hay for -- one evening he came in and stacked the hay inbetween his mare's stall and a very large (always hungry) gelding's stall. I came in to do evening check and found the gelding pulling the hay off the top of the pile into his stall, I found it to be pretty hilarious when I walked over (after witnessing him pulling a bale over the top of his stall) and asked him what he was doing, he gave me the most inoccent and curious look that I just had to laugh (and than proceed to move the hay out of his reach). biggrin

When I was young I worked at a riding stable. Some people here might remember it. It was Shady Trails at Bluewater Beach in Ontario Canada. I used to work with the ponies. So I had the pony colts trained to do al kinds of tricks. They would say there prayers, sit on a bench with all fours on the ground and their butt on the bench. Well the owners son Jerry used to go out at night drinking and come back and just flop into bed. So I got a pony colt to lay in his bed covered up with blankets. The plan was for Gerry to get into bed and find the colt laying beside him.  He layed there as long as I sat with him. When Jerry came through the door of the cabin I ran out of the bed room. There came the colt right behind me covered with Jerry's blanket. So what Jerry seen was his blanket running out of the bed room. We all had a good laugh about that.
