Completely Blind Dressage Horse - Smokey!
Permalink Closed

I just wanted to share this with everybody, you guys may of caught this on the homepage, but I think it is a wonderful story! Smokey is a completely blind dressage horse, who at the time of this video was 22, word has it that he is still going at 23. I think that Smokey is proof of what a horse can do with a lot of love and faith aww What do you guys think when you see a story like this? Do you have a story like this to share?

When I see a story like this, I am reminded of the many geriatric/handicapped horses I've had. Particularly Cassy, the gal in my avatar. She was 20 something when I got her, and by the time we put her down about 4 years later, she had taught me more than any book or school teacher ever has. She ended up with knees that fused solid from arthritis, unfortunately in the worst possible way, but despite the fact that she could barely walk, she would always hobble as fast as she could out into her run-in and greet me with a nicker every time I went out to see her. I think some of the best horses in our lives are the ones that nobody else would even give a second thought to. :) Very neat story.

Navara has a fused hind leg, her toe on the left side turns in and tracks up with the front right hoof. It is very deformed, but she is a very talented and very beautiful young lady :)
