Barn Camera Issues
Permalink Closed

I am trying to set up a barn cam so I dont have to sleep in the barn when my mare is due.  It is an old bank barn - stone on the bottom and wood second floor with a metal roof.  I would love to do wireless but havent found anything that works so far.  Anyone have experience and advice to share?  Or a techie's phone number (Guelph/Kitchener-Waterloo area) ?

Hi 233Farm,

Could you maybe give us a bit more info on the issue you are having? Which cam setup are you using/have tried? Are you plugging it into a computer/TV/both? If you're plugging it into a computer, does the computer have a built in capture card? Most laptops do not have a capture card, look under your Device Manager (Control Panel>System & Maintenance>Device Manager>Sound, Video, Gaming), you can get one installed or buy an external USB capture card.

Have you looked into Riverwind barn cams, they seem to be alright?

The last one I tried was a trendnet day/night camera (talks directly to the router). It worked for about an hour and then lost the signal. None of the cameras I have tried have been able to keep the signal or have the strength required. As I said, I have been trying wireless (our cell phones work fine in the barn). Its frustrating as I can physically see the camera.

If I have to go hard wired I can see where capture cards will be necessary. As running the wire will be a headache (paved driveway in between and large trucks use the drive so up or down is an issue) I have been avoiding it... I will look at Riverwind, thanks
