I have to share this because I can't even believe it! Jockey Tommy Molina was caught on video stomping on the back of a filly in the starting gate! Totally unacceptable, as an avid horse racing fan I really hope that this jockey is disciplined for how he treated this poor filly.

Disgusting. I wonder if he will be disciplined.

I'm bumping this so more people will see it. After the rage around the world directed against the reiner last month, why no outcry over the treatment of this poor filly who gets her back stomped??

First let me say that I hated seeing this video and I hope that the jockey is reprimanded.

On the other hand it is the TRAINER'S resposibility to school for good gate manners, the steward's responsibility not to let an imperfectly trained horse to start a race, and not the jockey's responsibility.  I do not think the jockey's actions were good in any way, but face it, if a jockey is injured in a gate accident by a badly trained horse it is the jockey who suffers and who has to pay all those medical bills, plus losing all income for his down time.

I think that there was more of a response to the reining video because it was obvious that the rider was in no danger from the actions of his horse at any time.  Also the reiner was severely punishing his mare for obeying him.

I guess I can understand the jockey's actions better than the reiner's actions.  Both were abusive, unnacceptably so.

Turns out the jockey was fined and warned (although he should of been suspended in my book). If he felt that the horse wasn't going to be a good ride, he could of found another mount to get on.

Also, it is the gate crew's job to settle the horses and have any "unruly" horses school in the morning. If the horse is unruly in the gate, then there should of been an assistant starter holding the horse to steady it in the gate.

Maybe it looks worse than it was, but to me it looks totally uncalled for.

It's funny isn't how people can get all het up about the reiner and not seem too fussed about this??? The jockey is just as abusive in stomping on the horses back as anything the reiner did. Maybe the difference is the jockey had a moment of anger that he couldn't control and the reiner had a system that was abusive?
It would be interesting to know how much the fine was! Bet it wasn't big. There's no defence for this, unruly horse or not.

Oh I'm all het up about this jockey Geoffrey.  I just said I saw his viewpoint more than the reiner.

I WANT the jockey to get disciplined, if anything like this gets passed over with just a slap on the wrist worse abuse follows.  At least on the racetrack there are disciplinary procedures for abuse, something that no longer seems to exist in USA show rings no matter what level the show in every type of class.

Good horsemanship is an endangered system as it just does not mesh with making a lot of money (or any money, or ego trips) from exploiting a horse.  What about immediate dismissal from anything, races, shows, 3-D etc., etc., etc., for any examples of bad horsemanship or any evidence of bad horsemanship?  After all if you are competing you are supposed to be better horsemen than us mere mortals who just piddle around on horseback.

Having been a part of the racing industry, I can state that this jockey should be banned for life!
Assistant starters do not abuse the horses at or in the gates...........so this jock takes it upon himself to play judge and adminster of punishment to this contained horse.....BS.
BAN the jock from racing for life...................
ban the reining trainer from competition for life...................
set examples rather than let these horses be abused

part of the difference is the jockey was disciplined and we know that these things get sorted by the jockey clubs..

but were is the discipline of the reiner and the acceptance of the equestrian federation that they must wield the stick against such people?
