I've just read this article on the poor racehorse filly Dance Madam. It makes me sick to know that any horse has been treated in such a way! I hope the filly can pull through, she is in extremely rough shape Warning, it is a bit of a graphic read.
You know, I just can't read that, BUT I have to say that humans who treat animals as inanimate objects here to serve their own greed, should be...well, I won't say what I would like to do with them. :(
No sympathy, no excuses, no rationalization for the mistreatment of ANY animal EVER EVER.

This sort of thing will continue to happen , and not just at racetracks, until the penalty matches the crime. Hit them in the hip pocket, that's were it hurts the most.
Totally agree, it isn't just at racetracks and it does very much revolve around greed. It is just one of the very many sad (and disgusting) stories out there.

What is sad is that here in the States there is a legal ruling that applies to horse abuse. The problem is getting a law enforcement agency to apply criminal statute to horse abuse.
2004 Washington State Supreme Court held in 118 Wn. App. 730, State v. Zawistowski, that Webster's Third New International Dictionary 1621 (1969) definition of "pain" as "a state of physical or mental lack of well-being or physical or mental uneasiness that ranges from mild discomfort or dull distress to acute often unbearable agony."
