Going on my own...
Permalink Closed

So, this day next week I will be in my last riding lesson at my current barn...the next day I will be flying to another province, as I need to go to another province to do  a pre-vet degree.

So while I am still excited, the nervousness and fear are starting to seep in. Everything is changing, and while I am ready, I am starting to feel scared, and sad, since I will be leaving my friends behind, my current barn and my current job.

I don't have a place/horse to ride secured yet, as I still need lessons, so when I get up there and get settled I am going to look for either lessons, or a lease that includes lessons as I still need them, so my comfort/stress reliver will be missing for a few weeks...ontop of that, I am leaving my good friends behind, and even though I have a friend going to the same school, and one not far away, it is still hard.

I currently have to work around loans and need to get a new job. Becasue I haven't worked in my new job for a year, I am unable to get a transfer, so I have to re-apply to a store up there, or maybe I'll try to get a stable hand position or something...I really don't know at this point.

Since this is more of me just posting my feeling again, what advice do you guys have to give a student going off on there own for the first time, living in res.

Hi Emiry,

I just have to say, good for you! You're taking a huge step in life, but it will all turn out and you'll be a better (and more educated!) individual for it. I understand how hard it is to juggle a budget when you're owing money on school -- I'm in my 5th year of University and it is tight at best! You're a very smart young woman and you'll get it all figured out. Although I haven't had to move out of province to go to school, I did have to sell my horse of 10 years in order to afford it, so I very much sympathize with you on how difficult it will be having to leave your current riding stable (and also your friends!) behind.

Take it day by day, don't overwhelm yourself all at once -- you'll find a job, a new place to ride and with things like Facebook you'll always be in touch with your friends and family no matter how far away they are.

You can do this!! biggrin
