I was just flipping through the flyers and seen that the Zellers (for us in Canada) flyer is sporting the "equestrian look" for Fall -- do dirty breeches and muck boots count as the "in" look as well?

I remember when the 'equestrian look' came in the late '80's I was working part time and going to school...I was working at a grocery store downtown toronto and the owners daughter came in one day wearing 'breeches and riding boots' -or so I thought. So I said 'hey how was your ride?' And she looked at me with an expression that was just priceless and said..'oh I don't have a horse!!! I like this look. It's kinda the style right now.' Later at school I made the same mistake seeing a girl in what I thought were 'dressboots' and breeches.... Personally I think it's kind of a silly look for people who would likely run screaming if a horse so much as looked at them....but whatever floats their boat I guess
Goatgirl, so true! I get a giggle out of the fashion as well. On the flip side, every time I've gone somewhere in real riding gear (coffee shop, grocery store etc.) I get the strange looks.. is it the addition of horse perfume or the specs of hay that get the odd looks?
Oh, this reminds me! The other day I was flipping through the channels and a lady was wearing a velvet riding cap (with harness) out to a fashion show with gothic-style makeup.

I've noticed a few people around my town (Halifax) wearing riding helmets while riding their bikes. I think this looks silly and IS silly because they don't have the chin strap done up! Must we now educate bike riders like we've been doing with dressage and western riders?!
Yes we must trouble horse. Bike riders are worse than western and dressage riders.
Actually I haven't seen any of that in Truro(bible hill)..maybe because most of us are farm folk or not silly urban folk.
Edited to answer question:
I personally am not a fan of equestrian being in, because like country/cowboy the dress is more of a way of life style, than a fashion statement, so the urban folk always end up looking bad because there clothes are impractical...just my two cents...but in saying that, I like being able to wear my stuff and not get werid looks.

Your horse will be there no matter what. So if life throws you up a creek w/o a paddle grab your boots and your saddle and your horse will carry you home
So when will Chanel come out with a new perfume.....Parfume de Equinus................ if one dresses the part in fashion then must be showered in the sweet smell of horse.
I love the looks people give me when I go straight from mucking the barn, and riding to the grocery shop. In the fall and winter here in on the wet coast the smell is most cloying because inevitably I've been drenched, bits of alfalfa and hay cling to my jacket. My boots or shoes are wet and still muddy no matter how carefully I try to scrape them....and as I stand in line I inevitably notice the delicately wrinkled nostrils of other women and furtively exchanged glances that say 'is that a bag lady??'...
I say it should be mandatory....no dressing like an equestrian unless you smell like one....I say unless you apply the essence of horse....it's like putting on a lovely formal dress and soccer cleats...
