Tied Up Tattoo
Permalink Closed

Hi

I had wrote about my 8 year old standardbred gelding Tattoo before looking for help.  I had lots of great ideas and suggestions, which I was greatful for.  Unfortuanately nothing that I did, worked, no suggestions from 4 different vets, nor all the help I got from the good people here helped either.

I am a person who is not easily convinced that products work as they are discribed unless I see it for myself, and it better be a spectacular difference after seeing the product, and/or work on multiple horses, or at least more than once on the same horse before I call myself a believer.

Tattoo is the worst tie up horse that I have ever had, and my 1/4 horse from years ago had that distinction for me and anyone that ever knew him... now Tattoo has him beat!!! All three vets said they never had one as bad, and combined they have worked for 110 years!!! lol

As to what I tried that so far has done the trick-- the Equiwinner Patch-- I am not endoursing it-- I am only telling people that it worked for me because Tattoo was going to have to be put down, or shipped if I could not stop the tie-up that's how bad it was.  He tied up everyday for 2 months, we tried giving him time off even (not the usual method for fixing the problem-- but he was so muscle sore I had to)-- time off didn't do a thing for him.  We tried so many things and methods of training, etc. that I can't even remember them all.  Every vet couldn't see what I was doing wrong-- or what to do different!!  So for any of you who have a tie-up horse that has the same type of tie-up that Tattoo has, you could try it, one good thing about it-- the part that sold me on it-- no needles, no drugs, -- NO pain for the horse-- either it works or it does not-- nothing to try to get him to eat either.

Whether it keeps on working I don't know, it promises that after the 10 days of patch that it will work for a year (or if you want/need to for a horse as bad as Tattoo you can do it for up to 4 times a year-- you can bet we will be), but so far he is 4 days off the patch, and still good, he has even trained since and no tie up.

I'm looking forward to racing him again (how I pay to keep him), and am really, really looking forward to riding him again this spring when the paddock is safe again!!! He is such fun to ride/race, he always makes me proud no matter the challenge he is always up to the task, so to think that I was going to have to ship him for something so stupid that I couldn't cure!!! I was horrified--

So wish my little horse luck, that this treatment keeps working, and I hope that our story helps someone else's 'little' horse.

take care

ps. Tattoo and me riding last winter, and Tattoo when he was still skinny after I had him for a bit, he had gained almost 200 lbs by this time.

So glad to hear about Tattoo!
This is fascinating! What other types of things does the patch help with? What's in it?
